The Keio University Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies offer scholarships for exceptional students accepted through Admissions for Overseas Students (GIGA Program).

Keio University also offers several scholarships for international students. In addition, various organizations and foundations, including government and private entities, also offer financial aid to international students studying in Japan.

Scholarships Exclusively for GIGA Program International Students

Apply for these scholarships the same time you apply for the GIGA Program. For further details on eligibility and application forms, see “Scholarships Exclusively for GIGA Program International Students.”
Below please find brief outlines of two scholarships exclusively for GIGA Program International Students.

  • Mentor Mitakai Scholarship for International Students
  • Amount awarded: Admission Fee, and Academic Fees for one year (2018 Fall semester and 2019 Spring semester). Supplemental financial aid for living costs may be provided for exceptional students.
    Duration: up to four years (subject to annual review)
    Application Deadline: the Admissions for Overseas Students (GIGA Program) application period deadline

  • MASATADA KOBAYASHI Scholarship for International Students
  • Amount awarded: JPY 1,000,000 per year
    Duration: up to four years (subject to annual review)
    Application Deadline: the Admissions for Overseas Students (GIGA Program) application period deadline

    Eligible students can apply to the scholarships listed below after entering Keio University.

Scholarships Provided by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

  • Honors Scholarships for Privately Financed International Students
  • Amount awarded: JPY 48,000 per month
    Duration: one year (students may apply every year)
    Application Deadline: April

Scholarships Provided by Keio University

  • Keio University Scholarship for Undergraduate Students (second year or higher)
  • Amount awarded: JPY 150,000 per year, or JPY 450,000 per year to exceptional students
    Duration: one year (students may apply every year)
    Application Deadline: around mid-October

  • Keio Emergency Scholarship for International Students
  • Amount awarded: within the limits of the relevant year’s Tuition Fee
    Duration: one year
    Application Deadline: TBA

Scholarships Provided by Private Foundations and Local Governments

There are over 100 scholarships provided by private foundations and local governments available to international students who are or will be studying in Japan, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Some of them are open to all students, whereas others are targeted specifically for students who are from certain countries and regions, or studying particular fields.
