Professor Rodney D. Van Meter in the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies will give a series of lectures in a course on FutureLearn. In the course, he will explain what Quantum Computing is, how it could be useful in our everyday life, approaches for its commercial use, and other related topics. He will present the ideas as clearly as possible, making it ideal for high school students in Japan and overseas, or anyone with an interest in the field of Quantum Computing. The lectures and discussion between participants will be in English, and the video will have English subtitles.

Professor Van Meter’s field of research is Quantum Computing, and his lectures are on topics such as Quantum Information Processing, Computer architecture and Operating systems. He also teaches in the Cyber Informatics Program in the Graduate School of Media and Governance.

The GIGA Program, Keio University’s first English-language based undergraduate degree program, began in the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies in September 2011 and many students take his courses with great interest.

The course is a great opportunity to see how Professor Van Meter conducts his lectures, and to get a feel for how courses are run in the GIGA Program, so please feel free to participate.
