Friday, August 10, 2012 – Twenty-one students from all over the world, gathered at SFC from Monday, July 30, 2012 to Saturday, August 4, 2012, to take part in the inaugural GIGA Program Summer Camp 2012.
Participants worked in groups over the two-day “Future of IT Workshop” (held Wednesday, August 1–Thursday, August 2), producing Internet devices and applications. Even though many of the high school students who attended had no previous specialized knowledge about information technology, they came out with a deep understanding, thanks to discussions and hands-on practice over the course of the workshop.
On Friday, August 3, 2012, participants were introduced to Japanese culture and history with a visit to Kamakura city, a popular tourist attraction close to SFC. For many students from overseas, this was their first time to come to Japan, and they took in the sights, shrines and temples of the historical city of Kamakura with great interest.
Despite the sweltering summer temperatures, participants learned a lot about SFC, Keio University, and also Japan over the week-long camp, and went home with many memories of a fun and stimulating stay.
